To answer your question – outlook express is a beast unto itself … so, I would consider installing the latest and testing w/2007 (unfortunately). There’s a free trial on the MS site that you can use for 60 days I think. I would definitely recommend that for now until you *must* register.

Thanks for writing this up! Pretty soon I will be building out functionality to send out HTML invitation emails for a project that I am working on. One question… Does Outlook Express behave like Outlook when it comes to HTML email rendering or do I have to go off and buy a copy of MS Office for my virtual machine?

It’s sad how clients tend to think of an HTML as something so easy/trivial that it can be a last minute after thought. Or better yet, the type of job where they can give you half-ass content, go on vacation for a couple days in the middle, and then complain that the changes they masterminded at 9pm weren’t waiting for them in the morning.

Possibly because there are more possible combinations of OS/Client/Browser/propretary user settings than there are Smiths in a major city’s phonebook.

Good tips, I’m embarassed to admit I had no idea about the Outlook/background-image shamozzle before you mentioned it. Bookmark’d
I’ve also found it easier to just stack tables on top of each other instead of getting tricky with colspans and crap. Break it into sections if you can and be done, FTDS

nice, love it. Neo-minimalism. I use an off the shelf free theme on mine. There are things I’d like to do to make it work a bit better, but I’m with you. way to acknowledge the cobbler’s syndrome (his kids never have shoes). I think this stripped theme is perfect in its meta.

I had a conversation last year with someone and she mentioned how a friend of hers said we in advertising had ruined everything by requiring perfection. I applaud your use of the utilitarian!
